“More aspirants for civil services”
Staff Reporter
TIRUCHI: There had been a 20 per cent rise in the number of applicants every year for civil services after the option of taking the examination in regional languages was introduced, said D.P. Agrawal, Chairman, Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), here on Thursday.
Last year, there were 4.2 lakh applicants. “I hope the number will increase next year,” he said. Only in the cases of Indian Administrative Service, Indian Police Service, and Indian Forest Service, the Government of India makes allocations to different States, he said, when asked about the distribution of vacancies to different States. No addition has been made to the 22 kinds of services in the past six to seven years. “It was for the government to decide,” Dr. Agrawal said to a query on the scope for adding new services. Vacancies were being added in civil services by 10 per cent every year. This year, the number of vacancies was 980.
