BANGALORE: The former Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council V.S. Ugrappa and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary S.T. Somashekhar on Friday alleged that the Department of Urban Development de-notified 57.16 acres of land in different survey numbers belonging to a leading industrialist in Avalahalli of Yelahanka hobli for huge kickbacks. Speaking to presspersons, Mr. Ugrappa said that the order issued by the department on February 13, 2009 indicating to the Bangalore Development Authority approving it to de-notify the land in question from the preliminary notification following the industrialist’s request letter to Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa was “self-explanatory”. The BDA, the order said, had been asked to send separate proposals under the rules for change of land use of the same. Mr. Ugrappa said that the prime land along with a horse stud is situated on Yelahanka-Doddaballapura Road between Central Reserve Police Force and BMS College and valued at over Rs. 5 crore had not been touched while acquisition proceedings against the other fertile lands belonging to farmers surrounding the had been acquired. Charging the top guns of the ruling party in the government with corruption for de-notifying lands in the five layouts being formed by the BDA, Mr. Ugrappa demanded that the case should be entrusted to the Central Bureau of Investigation. Instead of acquiring valuable lands where the farmers were growing vegetables, fruits with coconut gardens, he suggested that layouts should be formed in Kolar, Gauribidanur, Tumkur, Bagepalli, Kanakapura, Magadi and Chickaballapur and allot sites to the poor people also at affordable prices. He urged for forming layouts on the lands detected by the A.T. Ramaswamy panel if the government had any commitment in evicting the encroachers.
