Many striking employees in Manipur report for duty following Okram Ibobi’s announcement
Correspondent
IMPHAL: Following Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi’s announcement that officials in the departments of essential services would be arrested if they joined the cease work strike, many of them reported for duty on Friday. On the sidelines of the distribution of cash rewards to sportspersons at the Khuman Lampak sports complex on Thursday, Mr. Ibobi said the government would not remain a mute spectator when employees in the health, power and water supply departments joined the strike — spearheaded by the All Manipur Trade Unions Council and the All Manipur Government Employees’ Organisation — demanding an enhanced pay scale and allowances with retrospective effect from January 2006.
