Madikeri: A rare owl, said to be “brownwood owl”, normally spotted in Sri Lanka, parts of Himachal Pradesh and north-eastern States in India to some extent in the Western Ghats was handed over to the wildlife wing of the Forest Department on Friday by the person who found it in his coffee plantations in Chettalli on Thursday. Assistant Conservator of Forests, wildlife, Madikeri, Vijaya Kumar, confirmed to The Hindu that it was a Brownwood owl. The injured owl was spotted at a coffee plantation at Chettalli, 15 km from here, by Nitin, who handed over the bird to the officials of the wildlife wing department here for treatment. The bird would be treated for two days before being shifted to the Zoological Park in Mysore, Mr. Vijaya Kumar added.
