CRS starts inspection

MAYILADUTHURAI: Commissioner of Railway Safety K.J.S. Naidu on Friday commenced his two-day preliminary inspection of the 122-km Villupuram–Mayiladuturai broad gauge section. Mr. Naidu inspected the stretch from Mayiladuturai Junction to Puduchathiram in a trolley. He will inspect the stretch from Puduchathiram to Villupuram Junction on Saturday. Addressing the media here, Mr. Naidu said the aim of the inspection was to ascertain the safety of the bridges in the BG section, which has 32 major and 290 minor bridges.

Stating that this was the first inspection, Mr. Naidu said he would conduct a second inspection. Southern Railway is already operating goods trains in this section.
