Tania holds Persson

NEW DELHI: Tania Sachdev pulled off the biggest surprise so far in the Reykjavik Open chess championship by holding seventh seeded Swedish Grandmaster Tiger Hillarp Persson in the second round at Reykjavik on Friday.

Abhijeet Gupta, D. Harika and Sahaj Grover prevailed over lesser-rated rivals to be among the leaders.

The results (second round, involving Indians): Yuriy Kuzubov (Ukr, 2) bt Eesha Karavade (1); Tania Sachdev (1.5) drew with Tiger Hillarp Persson (Swe, 1.5); Abhijeet Gupta (2) bt Gudmundur Gislason (Isl, 1); D. Harika (2) bt Thorsteinn Thorsteinsoon (Isl, 1); Sahaj Grover (2) bt Stefan Bergsson (Isl, 1); Edmund Player (1.5) bt Vishal Sareen (0.5) .
