This flick is for the youth

A still from ‘Em Maaya Chesaave'

Film: Em Maaya Chesaave

Director: Gautam Vasudev Menon.

Cast: Naga Chaitanya, Samantha

When lots of hype 'n hoopla and big names are involved in the cast and crew, one simply can't help but struggle to match the expectations generated. That's exactly the case with ‘Em Maaya Chesaave' starring Naga Chaitanya and Samantha in an Indira Productions banner directed by a hotshot Gautam Vasudev Menon.

When the film was first announced, the director swore it would appeal to all ages. However, it looked like it was targeted at the 18 to 25 age group. Hero Karthik (Naga Chaitanya, son of ‘Nag') sets his eyes on heroine Jessy (Samantha) and promptly falls in love and then to his surprise he finds she is his landlord's daughter. The hero's dream is to become a film director but the love interest takes up a good deal of the screenplay.

The heroine (Samantha, a new face) has done well for a debutant. The twist comes when she says she cannot go against the wishes of her father who never agrees because they belonge to different religions. While Naga Chaitanya has definitely improved since his debut ‘Josh', he could do better. The new face is showcased as the cute-girl-next-door and has done well in the scenes where she vacillates between her love and her folks.

What actually carries the film along is truly awesome music by the maestro A.R. Rehman, who has come up with a melodious of Western classical and the Indian style. Music lovers will like the way the violin and the guitar go in tandem with the drums. Cinematography by Manoj Paramahamsa is eye-pleasing and editing by Anthony is clipped.
