LAUDING THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS: Speaker Thrissur: Veteran thimila player Kuzhur Narayana Marar and Ayurveda physicians P.K. Warrier and E.T. Narayanan Moos, who had been selected for the Padma Awards, were felicitated at a function at the Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed University for Art and Culture on Saturday. Addressing the meeting, Speaker K. Radhakrishnan spoke about their contribution to society. “Their services are unique. We need to improve the lot of percussionists. I recall having struggled to set up a welfare fund for percussionists sometime ago,” he said. Mementos The Padma awardees were presented mementos. Vijayan Warrier received the memento on behalf of Mr. P.K. Warrier. Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed University for Art and Culture Vice-Chancellor K.G. Poulose presided over the function. Babu M. Palissery, MLA, Kathakali maestro Kalamandalam Gopi, Vasanthi Menon, Kalamandalam Balasubramanian, Kongad Madhu and Mattannur Sankarankutty were present. The meeting noted that the University Grants Commission's rank of A grade for Kerala Kalamandalam was a great honour. UGC had assessed the functioning of 126 universities across the country and granted A grade to 38 deemed universities.
