KOLAR: Kolar Zilla Panchayat president M. Srinivasan, who was arrested by the Lokayukta police on February 6 while he was allegedly receiving bribe from an officer, has resigned from his post. Mr. Srinivasan told presspersons here on Saturday that he had submitted his resignation letter to the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department Secretary in Bangalore on Friday. Understanding“I stepped down in accordance with an understanding arrived at with the alliance partners during my election as zilla panchayat president,” Mr. Srinivasan said. “Though I did not receive any bribe, I resigned owing moral responsibility,” he added. Mr. Srinivasan accused Union Minister of State for Railways K.H. Muniyappa and the former Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Ramesh Kumar of hatching a conspiracy against him with the help of a senior officer and getting him trapped by the Lokayukta police. Claiming that he did not receive bribe, Mr. Srinivasan expressed confidence that he would emerge unblemished from the allegation against him. Mr. Srinivasan was granted bail by the Karnataka High Court following rejection of his plea by the district court.
