CHENNAI: The first “drive-thru” McDonald's restaurant in Chennai was inaugurated by Ranjit Paliath, Director (South), McDonald's India at Velachery on Saturday.

The double level restaurant with an area of 3,000 sq. feet has a capacity of 100 seats. It also has a children's play area, which the customers can hire for birthday celebrations and parties.

With this, McDonalds's has 29 restaurants across south India, including in Bangalore and Hyderabad.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Paliath said “South India is our focus for 2010 with plans to increase the number of restaurants by 50 per cent. Chennai has proved to be a key market and we intend to open a few more restaurants this year.”

Drive thru is unique to McDonald's as it is the first brand in the QSR space in India to offer this experience.
