Hyderabad
WFL players suspended
Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD: It is the World Futures League. Widely publicised by Rego Joseph, CEO, as the future for all young talent across Asia and Africa. But, within 24 hours after the conclusion of the first edition of the Afro-Asia Cup T-20 championship (under-17 years), Hyderabad Cricket Association dropped a bombshell slapping a suspension on all those players and officials who took part in the event. D. S. Chalapathi, HCA Joint Secretary, said the decision is taken as per the directive of BCCI which had declared the event unauthorised even before it was actually organised. “It's not a knee-jerk reaction. We warned everyone about the nature of the event and if someone still took part, he did so at his own risk,” he argued.
Though the suspension may not mean much to a player like Apurva Sharma, an IIT student, it's not the same with the likes of Praveeth Kumar, an A-Division league player.
None of the players who figured in WFL are eligible to play in any official tournaments of HCA or BCCI.
