“Budget not public-friendly”
The Federation of Consumer and Service Organisations has appealed to the United Progressive Alliance constituents to press the Finance Minister to withdraw the hike in Central Excise duty on petrol and diesel. In a statement issued here, M.Sekaran, president of the federation said the increase would impact on the prices of all products including agriculture produce. He also expressed regret that there was no announcement on banning on line trade of commodities in the budget. The widening of service tax would also add to the burden of common man. The budget on the whole was not public-friendly, he observed.
