Plus-Two examinations begin

Tirupur: The Higher Secondary Public Examination commenced at 36 centres in the district on Monday.

Chief Educational Officer T. Rajendiran told The Hindu that a total of 17,092 students (7,656 boys and 9,436 girls) appeared for the examination and of them, 898 were private students. The Education Department had appointed 999 persons, including headmasters and teachers, as invigilators and supervisors.

Besides, 50 flying squads comprising 140 teachers had been constituted to check for any malpractices and smooth conduct of the examinations.

Mr. Rajendiran said that question papers were stored at six ‘custodian points’ established in the district.

“We have provided armed security at these storage centres,” he added. Earlier in the day, Collector C. Samayamoorthy inspected the arrangements made at the Jaiva Bhai Corporation Girls Higher Secondary School in the city where 1,394 students wrote the examination.

In Coimbatore

Students in Coimbatore city wrote the Plus-Two examinations in 66 centres.

According to a release, 13,608 boys and 17,318 girls totalling 30,926 students took the examination. Collector P. Umanath visited the centre at Mani High School and inspected the arrangements made there.

He said there were no untoward incidents reported. He added that there were 75 flying squads to keep a check on students to prevent them from copying and talking to each other.
