Launch of 3G services in Guntur next week

Uddan scheme stands sixth in the entire country

Applications for landline connection to be taken to caller's doorstep


GUNTUR: The wait for launch of Third Generation Services (3G) of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited in Guntur is over and formal rolling out will take place next mid-week.

The services being run on trial basis for the past one month have been successful in Guntur, Eluru and Vijayawada.

Meanwhile, the ‘Udaan', a new scheme launched by BSNL on January 30 in Guntur to bring its services at subscribers' doorstep, has taken wings by standing at sixth place in entire country.

Eluru first in State

While Eluru is in the first place in implementing the scheme in Andhra Pradesh, Guntur is in the second place in terms of number of connections given/calls materialised.

Any person can call 1991, 1500 requesting for a landline connection, broadband or other services, for which applications will be taken to the doorstep of the caller, prescribed money collected by giving a receipt.

In Guntur, the project implementation, headed by G. Raghuram, has received 1800 calls of which 1100 have been provided connections.

The Chief General Manager AP circle, T.N. Sudheendra Kumar, in the presence of local MPs will launch the services that would allow video conferencing if subscribers at both ends have 3G configured handsets, high-speed data transfer @ 512 kbps and above along with mobile TV. With the success of the services under 29 towers in Guntur city and 15 more to be added with a fortnight, entire Municipal Corporation Limits will be covered.

Subscribers can retain their existing 2G phone numbers under GSM whether under prepaid or post-paid and migrate to the 3G services just by sending an SMS (to be specified by the department on the day of launch). The new subscribers can buy 3G prepaid connections at Rs.59.

Starter pack

This 3G starter pack contains U-SIM (3G Sim card), after the activation of 3G SIM card the customer has to recharge with the desired 3G tariff plan which provides the lowest tariff for voice, video calls and Data usage.

The new 3G subscribers will get 50 free video calls and 25 MB Data usage.
