KRISHNAGIRI: One lakh saplings will be planted in all the educational institutions in the district, said M. Thangarasu, Vice-Chancellor, Periyar University at a meeting held at the Collectorate recently in the presence of V.K. Shanmugam, Collector. Decreased Rainfall had decreased for the past many years due to diminishing number of trees. This prompted the district administration along with the Periyar University to take the initiative to plant saplings and its proper maintenance in all the educational institutions, Mr. Thangarasu said. He said saplings would be planted in all primary schools, anganwadi centres, middle schools, high schools, higher secondary schools, polytechnics, government and private colleges, engineering colleges and government offices with the help of government employees and members of non-governmental organisations. All the heads of departments, police officials and heads of educational institutions such as schools and colleges participated in the consultative meeting.
