HASSAN: Working president of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene, Kodihalli Chandrashekar, has said that over five lakh farmers will lay siege to Parliament House on March 9 in support of their demands, including a separate budget for farmers . Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, Mr. Chandrashekar said that over 10,000 farmers from Karnataka would take part in the protest and they would leave in batches from Friday. He said that about three months ago they presented a memorandum to the Prime Minister and the Union Agriculture Minister seeking a separate budget for farmers, but there was no mention of that in the Union Budget presented to Parliament. Mr. Chandrashekar said they would also bring to the notice of the Prime Minister the large-scale land acquisition to set up industriesin Karnataka. He said that a national policy on mining would also be sought. Mr. Chandrashekar said KRRS supported the setting up of industries, but it should not be done by acquiring fertile land. Earlier, Mr. Chandraskehar visited farmers of Dasarakoppalu who have been agitating in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office since Monday to oppose the notification of the Government to acquire their land.
