NEW DELHI: Commuters will now be able to access all information related to the Delhi Metro railway routes and schedules on their mobile phones and online. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and Google India have partnered through Google Transit to provide complete information on schedules and routes on mobile devices with Google Maps for Mobile. The free service will allow commuters to check the latest updates to make route changes on-the-go. “Google Transit, which is a way to navigate on Google Maps, can give easy information on train timings, station locations, frequency of service, time taken for travel and ticket fares,” said a joint statement issued by DMRC and Google India here on Thursday. The service is also expected to come to the aid of visitors who will arrive in the city during the Commonwealth Games in October. Google Transit will also offer information on new routes that will get added to the metro network. Referring to the new service, DMRC Managing Director E. Sreedharan said: “In line with Delhi Metro's vision for a people-centred public transport system we have launched several initiatives to help commuters better manage their travel time, transfers, and make more informed transport decisions. The collaboration with Google is another step in this direction to make it even easier for the public to plan their trips with transit information on Google Maps.” For getting the desired information Delhi Metro commuters will be able to receive information for locating routes on Google Maps, the result shows a map with possible route and driving directions for the commuter, or by choosing the transit option, commuters would get first-hand information on Delhi metro's schedule and passing lines in that area. Commuters can also switch on the Layers option on desktop and mobile to get a quick snapshot of the entire Delhi Metro rail network. They can click the station icons to get train information for that station Manik Gupta, Product Manager, Google Maps and Local, said: “With just a click on a station, commuters can get information showing timings, stations, passing lines, frequency of service, etc. All this will be available on desktops as well as mobiles to make it easier for the commuters.” Google also provides information on Kolkata Metro, Chennai MRTS and Hyderabad Metro transit services to commuters.
