Extension of interim bail for Chautala brothers in assets case

NEW DELHI: A court here on Thursday extended by two days interim bail for Abhay and Ajay Singh Chautala, sons of former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, in a disproportionate assets case.

Special CBI Judge P. S. Teji allowed the plea of the Chautala brothers, who are Indian National Lok Dal MLAs, for extension of their interim bail, which expired on Thursday, and fixed the matter for March 6 for taking cognisance of charge sheets against them. It would also hear arguments on their applications for regular bail in the case.

The court had on February 22 granted interim bail to Abhay Singh Chautala till March 4 on a surety bond of Rs.1 lakh each.

Ajay was granted bail earlier. Abhay had appeared before the court after a bailable warrant was issued against him on February 15.

Besides them, co-accused Chetram, Om Prakash, Abhimanyu Singh, Rajender Kumar and Netram are also on interim bail in the case.

The CBI had on December 24 filed a charge sheet against the two sons of Om Prakash Chautala in the case. According to the charge sheet against Ajay, the CBI claimed he was in possession of assets amounting to Rs.27.74 crore -- 339 per cent more than his income of Rs.8.17 crore during the period of 1993 to 2006.

The second charge sheet was filed against Abhay alleging his assets were 522 per cent more than his income of Rs.22.89 crore as per Income Tax records during the check period of 2000-05. - PTI
