Kochi: The Kerala High Court, on Thursday, granted bail to eight workers of the Dalit Human Rights Movement (DHRM) in a case relating to the murder of a man at Varkala. Justice K.T. Sankaran ordered that the accused be released on bail on their executing a bond of Rs.50,000 each with two solvent sureties to the like sum to the satisfaction of the Judicial First Class Magistrate-I, Varkala. Sivadas, 62, was killed when he was taking a morning walk on September 23, 2009. Opposing the bail pleas, Director-General of Prosecution V.G. Govindan Nair charged the organisation with conspiring to undertake criminal activities to create terror and insecurity among people and gain prominence. The court ordered that the petitioners should not indulge in criminal activities or any other unlawful activities during the bail period. If they did so, the bail could be cancelled. The judge directed them to appear before the investigation officer between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Bail to woman Acting on another petition, the court granted bail to Sherine, an accused in the Bhaskara Karanavar murder case. The court ordered her release on her executing a bond of Rs.50,000 with two solvent sureties to the like sum to the satisfaction of the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, Chengannur. The other conditions are she should not leave the limits of Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram districts without the prior permission of the court.
