Muthoot plans projects in hospitality sector

Resorts to be made self-sustainable
Stress on biodiversity

KOCHI: ‘Small changes make big difference' is the credo by which the Muthoot group plans to expand its presence in the tourism and hospitality sector, says George M. George, executive director of Muthoot Leisure & Hospitality Services.

Talking to reporters here, Mr. George said by adopting conservation-oriented sustainable tourism, the leisure division of the Muthoot group is “going green” in a long-term perspective.

The fragile ecological conditions of the State would be kept in mind when promoting tourism and the Muthoot Environment Research Foundation had already put in practice a number of measures that could be called innovative while at the same time not robbing the simple pleasures that tourists expect from resorts and houseboats, he said.

The Leisure division's flagship hotel ‘Cardamom County' in Thekkady has become the first resort in Kerala to get ISO certifications for quality, environment and food safety management system.

The group's plan is to make the individual resorts self-sustainable and empower the entire front office staff to provide solutions to the queries and problems of the tourists. Answering a question, he said the Leisure division will soon get its 10th houseboat. All the houseboats have gold-star rating of the Tourism Department and also ‘green-palm' rating for environmental protection. The fleet would be doubled considering the surge in domestic tourism. Regarding future plans, he said the Beach resort in Mararikulam would be ready within 15 months. One resort planned in Panangad, near Kochi, would lay stress on promoting local agricultural practices, including shrimp farming.

The Business hotel on the National Highway Bypass, near Edapally, would also come up within a short span offering a different experience to travelling businessmen.
