Employment generators are the need of the hour, says Kalam

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The country at present needs employment generators as already there are many job seekers, said former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam here on Friday.

Inaugurating a mass outreach programme at the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Institute (MSME-DI) at Guindy, Mr. Kalam said nearly 10 million people were waiting to be employed. So efforts should be on to create employment generators.

Employment generators could be created by creative leaders. Those leaders should not be directors but should be coaches. They should act as delegators instead of directors, as any mission required a creative leader to succeed, he said. Talking about the new initiative, P. Kishore, Managing Director, Everonn Education Limited, said technology should be made available for educating every child.

The organisation is currently conducting satellite-based school education programmes under which 5,600 government schools in 16 states have been covered. Apart from this nearly 1,700 colleges have also been connected under the programme, he said. Under the mass outreach programme, the MSME-DI would offer various entrepreneurial development programmes.

P. Selvam, Additional Chief Secretary, S. Sivagnanam, Director, MSME-DI participated.
