Brumby: best investigators handling child's case

NEW DELHI: “Distressed” by the death of three-year-old Gurshan Singh Channa in Melbourne, Premier of Victoria John Brumby on Friday assured the Indian community Down Under that investigators from the Commonwealth would be called in, if need be, to unravel the mysterious circumstances in which the boy's body was found.

At a press conference in Melbourne — extracts of which were released in India — Mr. Brumby said the best investigators and forensic experts in the Victoria police were working on the case and he would call on Commonwealth resources, if needed.

Mr. Brumby said the Victorian community was horrified and outraged by the boy's death. Further, he sought to assure the Indian community through Indian High Commissioner Sujatha Singh that no stone would be left unturned to establish the cause of the death.

The body was found by a council worker by the side of the road at the Oaklands Junction on Thursday night six hours after he was reported missing in the northern suburb of Lalor. Since the results of the further forensic testing were awaited at the time of the press conference, the cause of death was not determined. But, the case was being treated as suspicious.
