Foundation stone to be laid for bridge

Nagercoil: The Minister for Highways, Vellakoil M.P. Saminathan, would lay foundation stone for the construction of a permanent bridge connecting Keeza Manalkudi with Mela Manakudi which was badly affected by the tsunami in December 26, 2004.

According to the Tourism Minister, N. Suresh Rajan, the Government has allotted Rs. 21 crore for the construction of the bridge.

The then Government had constructed a temporary bridge but heavy vehicles could not pass through the bridge. When this was brought to the notice of the Chief Minister, M. Karunanidhi, he directed the officials concerned to take immediate steps for the construction of the permanent bridge.

On March 26

The Minister for Highways would lay the foundation stone on March 16.
