Forest Dept. to supply one million potted plants for Games

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Government's Forest Department will provide one million potted plants for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in the city. In all three to five million potted plants will be required of which the Forest Department will provide one million plants.

Six projects worth Rs.50 crore were sanctioned over the weekend at a meeting of the Expenditure Finance Committee presided over by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. Of the six projects, one pertains to the Forest Department and rest to the Public Works Department.

After the meeting, Ms. Dikshit said Delhi would be able to successfully host the Commonwealth Games. The area around the Games venues and roads leading to the venues will have the soothing fragrance of beautiful and colourful flowers during the Games. The committee has approved a proposal of the Forest Department to make available one million potted plants at a cost of around Rs.7.5 crore.

An amount of Rs.16.56 crore has been sanctioned for improvement of footpath at various roads under the PWD. In addition, Rs.7.39 crore has been sanctioned for improvement of footpaths by providing and laying anti-skid multi-coloured inter-locking paver blocks on Ring Road from Raj Ghat to Delhi University.

The committee has sanctioned Rs.9.42 crore for improvement, modification and re-surfacing of various roads under the PWD.

It has also been decided to upgrade and beautify National Highway-1 from Sanjay Gandhi Nagar T-point to Wazirabad Chowk which include up-gradation of central verge, footpath and sign-boards works with a budget of Rs.10.97 crore.
