PUDUCHERRY: Students of various schools bagged prizes in sports and cultural competitions. At St. Joseph of Cluny Girls Higher Secondary School, K.R. Anjana of Standard VII participated in the NR Open Tennis Tournament conducted by FTC Club for 2010 and emerged as winner in girls under-16 category. She was awarded with a cash prize of Rs.2,000. P. Preethika of Standard VI took part in the 10th Swami Gitananda “Best Youth and Child Award” organised by the Pondicherry Yogasana Association and won the first runner-up in child category. M. Poornima of Standard VIII received a merit certificate for stage performance of mono-acting at a function organised by the India Movement for Tamil Culture. The students participated in the XXXI Annual Amateur Athletics Championship and won the following prizes — Under-14 girls: Bettina O'Brien of Standard VIII won the first prize in long jump, M. Poornima of Standard VIII came second in shot put, D. Pavithra of Standard VIII came third in 100 m and Vidhya of Standard VIII came third in high jump. In the under-16 girls category, F. Nancy Swetha came first in high jump and second in long jump and S. Siva Sankari of Standard XI came second in discuss throw and third in shot put. In the under-18 girls category, T. Pradeepa of Standard XI came second in 200 m and third in 100 m, R. Monisha of Standard XI came second in long jump and third in 200 m. Students of Blessed Mother Teresa Model Higher Secondary School took part in “my way of celebrating Pongal” conducted by ING Life Insurance and won prizes. B. Keerthan of LKG, Sasirekha of UKG, Jayasuriya of Standard I, Rahul of Standard III, Jaganathan of Standard IV and Sudar of Standard V won prizes.
