Rajesh stars for Sports XI

VISAKHAPATNAM: N. Rajesh scored a century (103, 9x4, 121 b) in Sports XI's narrow seven-run win over Vizag Veterans in the 17th annual The Hindu trophy prize money cricket tournament at the ACA-VDCA stadium here on Wednesday.

D. Ramesh turned a fine all-round show for the loser.

P. Madhusudhana Rao starred for East Coast Railway Sports Association with all-round performance as the railway team coasted to an eight-wicket win over Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and Prince Cecil picked up three wickets and then cracked an unbeaten 50 in Gajuwaka Greens' eight-wicket win over Royal CC

Quarterfinals will be held on Thursday.

Sports XI 253 for nine in 50 overs (N. Rajesh 103, V. Vinay Kumar 30, Venkateswara Rao 29, D. Ramesh four for 33) bt Vizag Veterans 246 in 48.4 overs (P. Kishore 51, D. Ramesh 48, N. Suresh 42, Gopi Reddy three for 35).

Royal C.C. 117 in 27.5 overs (B.S.N. Swamy 30, Prince Cecil three for 21, Vijay Kumar three for 34) lost to Gajuwaka Greens 119 for two in 12.2 overs (Prince Cecil 50 n.o., K. Karthik 31, Sai Bharath 26).

Visakhapatnam Steel Plant 184 in 50 overs (Ch. Srinivas 34, H.K. Botra 27, P. Madhusudhana Rao three for 40) lost to East Coast Railway Sports Association 187 for two in 39.3 overs (D. Naresh Kumar 77, P. Madhusudhana Rao 67, D. Ravi Kumar 29).
