Vijay Kumar in the van

GURGAON: Vijay Kumar fired a five-under 67 to take a two-stroke lead over the duo of S.S.P. Chowrasia and Rafick Ali Mollah after the opening round of the Solaris Chemtech Open golf tournament at the Classic Golf Resort here on Wednesday.

The 2002 Indian Open winner's bogey-free round was mainly due to some very good iron-play. His longest of the five birdies came from 25 feet.

The scores: Vijay Kumar 67; S. S. P. Chowrasia, Rafick Ali Mollah 69; Arshpreet Thind, R. Srinivas, Rudresh Sharma, Vivek Bhandari, Sanjay Kumar, Raj Randhawa, Mohammad Siddikur Rahman, Sujjan Singh 70; Rahul Sikund, R.
