Auto-tipper services for waste management

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: To improve sanitation waste management in unauthorised colonies, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has started an auto-tipper service for solid waste management in the unauthorised colonies of Nangloi and Baprolla in West Delhi.

MCD House leader Subhash Arya and Municipal Commissioner K. S. Mehra also inspected these colonies. The auto-tippers have been deputed with one driver and two ‘beldars'.

“Till now the garbage was collected in handcarts. It is for the first time that the MCD has engaged these auto-tippers for collection of garbage from the narrow lanes of unauthorised colonies. After the success of the pilot project, the services will be extended to other unauthorised colonies as well,” Mr.Arya said.

“The unauthorised colonies do not have space for basic infrastructural services. For this purpose, a resolution was passed at the last meeting of the House that any plot measuring 300 square metres and above lying vacant in such colonies should be acquired to provide such services. The MCD move encouraged the local citizens who donated a plot measuring 600 square yards to the MCD, he added.
