Perambur flyover to be opened on March 28

CHENNAI: The Perambur flyover will be inaugurated at 5 p.m. on March 28 by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.

Briefing reporters after inspecting the flyover, Deputy Chief Minister M.K.Stalin said that residents of several areas, including Perambur, Ayanavaram, Periyar Nagar, Purasawalkam, Sembium, Thiru Vi Ka Nagar and Kolathur, would benefit from the flyover.

He said that a total of 25,000 vehicles would use the flyover, which had three arms.

Two parks were being created near the flyover at a cost of Rs.70 lakh. A total of 150 streetlights and two high-mast lamps have been installed on the flyover and service lanes at a cost of Rs.87 lakh.

Mr.Stalin expressed happiness over the completion of the project within 21 months by the Chennai Corporation.

Later, he also inspected the Victoria Public Hall, which is situated adjacent to the Ripon Building. He said that the hall, which is being presently renovated, would be ready in 18 months.

The ground floor would have a sound and light show and the first floor an auditorium, he added.

Mayor M. Subramanian, Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department Secretary Niranjan Mardi and Chennai Corporation Commissioner Rajesh Lakhoni were present during the inspections.
