Cycle lanes to be created

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: Cycle lanes will be created by Chennai Corporation to promote cycling and control vehicular pollution and fuel consumption.

To attract tourists to the Marina beach, the civic body would provide cycles on rent during weekends. It would also conduct a study for urban redevelopment of T. Nagar. A firm, Jones Lang Lasalle Meghraj, has been chosen as a consultant for preparing detailed project report to decongest traffic and regulate growing commercial activities in the area.

Multilevel parking facilities would soon be developed in Anna Nagar, Adyar and Purasawalkam. A new parking policy to regulate parking lots and collection of fee would be introduced.

Besides 100 automatic parking meters across the city, model pedestrian friendly corridors without obstructions on footpaths such as transformers and pillar boxes would be developed. The stretches chosen include that between Greenways Road and S.N.Chetty Road and between Kamarajar Salai and Village Road.
