GIS-based survey of city begins

MADURAI: Mayor G. Thenmozhi inaugurated an exercise to verify the base map of the city with the help of geographic information system (GIS).

Corporation Commissioner S. Sebastine said that 30 two-member teams would inspect various places in the city, including extension areas, and verify the buildings, underground drainage system, water distribution facilities, hospitals, educational institutions, bus stands, parks, playgrounds and other facilities.

Tata Consultancy Services would do the survey work. The works were expected to be completed within three months.

The Commissioner has urged the city residents to cooperate with the survey team. North Zone Chairman K. Esakkimuthu, councillors Karuppaiah and Pon. Sethuramalingam and Chief Engineer K. Sakthivel were among those who were present.
