This Day That Age
A Russian feature film “Prince of Samarkand” and an Indian short film “Taj Mahal” have been awarded Golden Eagle top prizes by a jury of the second Afro-Asian Film Festival, according to official results released in Cairo on March 15. Silver Eagles were awarded to the Indian actor Sivaji Ganesan for his performance in the film “Veerapandiya Kattabomman” and to Ramanathan for the best music in the same film. This film also received a special prize from the jury. Silver Eagles also went jointly to the Egyptian actress Magda for her performance in the film Kaiss and Laila and China's Yan Li Tchun for her part in “Five Golden Flowers”. Wang Chia Ni, Director of the Chinese film also received a Silver Eagle. The jury also awarded 12 certificates of merit for performances in full-length features, including one to the Indian actress Padmini, heroine of “Veerapandiya Kattabomman.” Ramanathan was absent from the festival, and Padmini received his Silver Eagle on his behalf.
