CHENNAI: Southern Railway fought out a 3-3 draw with Chennai Customs in the St. Joseph's-Chennai Football Association senior division league here on Tuesday. Customs began confidently and took the lead in the ninth minute. M. Ramesh headed emphatically into the back of the net off a fine left wing cross from M. Kumar. Southern Railway should have gone into the half-time break level on goals, but P.C. Raju headed over the crossbar with the goal gaping in front of him. Ramesh doubled his and his team's advantage in the 48th minute. Kumar was once again the architect, crossing immaculately after being found unmarked on the left wing by M. David. Against run of play Much against the run of play, Southern Railway managed to pull a goal back in the 55th minute. Left winger G. Venkatesan dribbled past three defenders and found an unmarked Riju who lashed a left footer past the Customs' goalkeeper. Buoyed by the goal, Southern Railway surged in search of the equaliser and was rewarded in the 79th minute. The untiring Riju scurried to the by-line after controlling a long ball from R. Rajesh and crossed splendidly for M. Bharath to tap the ball in from two yards out. Southern Railway must have thought it had completed the most remarkable of comebacks in the 84th minute after Bharath headed from close range off an excellent cross from Elamurugan. But, Customs showed outstanding character in conjuring an equaliser in the 88th minute. M. Parthiban thrashed home a volley after a free kick from A. Williams was only partially cleared. Earlier in the first division, Chennai Soccer played out a goalless draw with Railway Protection Force. Thrilling win for RMK RMK edged Vivekananda by one run in a match in the M.G.R. memorial inter-institutional cricket tournament, being organised by the Jeppiar Educaitonal Trust.
