Two-day workshop on badminton

HYDERABAD: A two-day pre-Commonwealth Games workshop in badminton, organised by Sports Authority of India at the Pullela Gopi Chand Badminton Academy (Gachibowli) near here, was inaugurated by Ms. V. Radha, Director of SAAP, on Saturday.

The workshop is to get the 40-odd participants including national panel coaches and the State coaches, acquainted with the latest rules and regulations in the sport ahead of the 2010 Commonwealth Games to be held in Delhi later this year.

India's chief national coach Gopi Chand and his assistant coach Hadi Idris of Indonesia along with Dr. P. Majumdar (Exercise Physiology) are the subject experts.

Dr. Manilal (GTMT), Mr. K. K. Maji (Biomechanics) and Mr. Subramaniam (Sports Psychology) of SAI will also give lectures.

Dr. G. Kishore, Director of SAI, Bangalore, stressed the importance of having workshops of this kind which will help participants to know about latest trends and methods in planning the schedule for preparation of the players for Commonwealth Games.

Mr.Pradeep Srikrishna Gandhe, Member, Selection Committee, BAI, emphasized the need to take care of sports injuries before the competition.

Gopi Chand stressed on the significance of having these workshops for sharing experiences in coaching and also in sports sciences. — Special Correspondent
