Set up ONGC corporate office at Rajahmundry or Kakinada: MP

Amalapuram: Amalapuram MP G.V. Harsha Kumar has demanded that the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) should construct its corporate office either in Rajahmundry or Kakinada. Alternatively, ONGC should consider Visakhapatnam as the third option. ONGC is reportedly making arrangements for construction of its State office in Hyderabad at an estimated cost of Rs 250 crore. Addressing media persons here on Sunday, Mr. Harsha Kumar said since most of the ONGC's exploration and production activities were going on in Konaseema region and some other parts of East Godavari district, it was imperative that the corporate office was established in the district.

If the ONGC did not change its decision regarding the location of its corporate office, its activities in the Krishna-Godavari basin would be obstructed with the help of all political parties, Mr. Kumar warned. Mr. Harsha Kumar observed that the Gas Authority of India Limited was not giving enough funds for its corporate social responsibility activities, which should be at least one percent of its profits. At this rate, the public sector should have released nearly Rs 1.5 crore in the last four years but only Rs 60 lakh were deployed.

As regards Narsapuram-Kotipalli railway line, Mr. Harsha Kumar said tenders were most likely to be called on April 15. The Central Government has earmarked Rs 15 crore for the project and the State Government would be asked to contribute Rs 35 crore. Mr. Kumar would make a representation to Chief Minister K Rosaiah during the latter's visit to the district on April 11.
