Film society announces screening schedule

BHUBANESWAR: Film Society of Bhubaneswar (FSB) on Monday announced its screening schedule for the month. The screenings that will be held on March 28 evening at Jayadev Bhavan will feature Japanese and another film from Argentina.

The first film of the evening -- Gigante -- made last year is the debut venture of musician turned filmmaker Adrián Biniez from Argentina, according to FSB officials. The 85-minute film, slated to be screened at 6 p.m. offers “a remarkably observant portrayal of a monotonous workplace and the story of a man who works there.” The film claimed both the best first feature and the Grand Jury Prize at the Berlin International Film Festival.

The concluding film - Kohayagawa-ke no aki (The End of Summer) - was made by celebrated Japanese filmmaker Yasujiro Ozu in 1961. Spanning over 103 minutes. It is an intimate portrayal of Japanese family life, exploring the breakdown of traditional family values in the face of post-war progress. Ozu, one of the great masters of world cinema, directed 53 feature films during his illustrious career. The End of Summer is considered as his masterpiece.

FSB, the only of its kind in Orissa today, has made arrangements to get enrolled for its membership and for renewal of the membership at the venue of the screening, according to the officials. Details of its annual film festival will be announced shortly.
