Vigil:The Nilgiris Collector Archana Patnaik carrying out a surprise inspection at the examination centre in the Government Higher Secondary School in Nanjanad, near Udhagamandalam, on Tuesday. Udhagamandalam: The10th standard examinations got under way in various parts of the Nilgiris district on Tuesday. With the administration taking steps to ensure smooth conduct of the examinations and to prevent students indulging in unfair practices like copying, the Nilgiris Collector Archana Patnaik carried out a surprise inspection at the Government Higher Secondary School in Nanjanad near here. According to the Chief Educational Officer P. Rajalakshmi, in the Coonoor educational district 5,819 students including 3,014 girls were writing the SSLC exams, 460 including 241 girls were appearing for the Matriculation examinations and 203 including 105 girls were writing the Anglo Indian examinations. In the Gudalur education district, 3,208 candidates including 1,705 girls were writing the SSLC exams and 331 were appearing for the Matriculation examinations. The number of examination centres was 42 in Coonoor educational district and 15 in Gudalur educational district. To ensure that students do not resort to unfair practices, a 52-member flying squad has been formed in Coonoor and 20-member squad in Gudalur. Four custodial points have been formed in Coonoor educational district and three in Gudalur to keep the answer sheets in safe custody. Adequate number of teachers have been posted for examination duty. Security has been provided to each centre to prevent entry of unauthorised persons. The police said that steps have been taken to prevent disturbances near the examination centres.
