DAVANGERE: There would not be fertilizer shortage in any part of the State this year, and the district agriculture officers have been instructed to take all measures to provide sufficient fertilizers to farmers in the coming season, Agriculture Minister S.A. Ravindranath said here on Tuesday . He said that over 20,000 tonnes of fertilizer had already been stored in Davangere and over 16,000 tonnes was expected in the next 15 days. Laying the foundation stone for a 16,000-tonne capacity warehouse in the APMC yard here on Tuesday, Mr. Ravindranath alleged that many of his political detractors and Opposition parties had created artificial scarcity of fertilizers in the district and surrounding places in a bid to malign him. He said that he did not want to leave room for similar opportunities for the Opposition parties and assured the farmers that steps had been taken to ensure that no one would store fertilizer illegally to create scarcity. G.M. Siddeshwar, Davangere MP, said that the BJP Government in the State was committed to the welfare of farmers. The State Government, he said, had released Rs. 7 crore to build the warehouse.
