One killed, 18 injured in road accident

Coimbatore/ Tirupur: One person was killed and 18 others sustained injuries when the minidor vehicle in which they were travelling lost control and fell on its sides on Tuesday afternoon near Vellalore.

According to the police, the persons were from Singanallur.

The deceased was identified as Subramanian. Out of the 18 injured, some are undergoing treatment as in-patients while others were treated for minor bruises.

An agrarian family was allegedly robbed of cash and valuables worth Rs. 1.5 lakh at Komaralingam near Tirupur on Monday late night.

Police said two masked men entered the house of N. Nallasamy (76) and took away Rs. 90,000 in cash, a five-sovereign chain and two mobile phones after threatening Nallasamy, his wife and grandson with a sickle. They then tried to take the car parked on the farm premises but could not succeed owing to mechanical problem with the vehicle.

However, they managed to steal a motorbike parked on the side of the car.

The accused gained entry into the house after Arjun Eswaran (19), grandson of Nallasamy, opened the door hearing the barking of their dog.

Wayside robbery

A woman was allegedly robbed of jewellery, cash and cellphone, worth a total of Rs 50,000, by two youth at Kundadam near Tirupur on Monday night.

Police said the accused, who came on a motorcycle, intercepted the moped driven by Vanchikodi. She was then pushed down and her four-sovereign chain, a cell phone and cash of Rs. 300 were taken away.
