KARUR: Three persons, including a woman, were killed and another suffered severe injuries when a lorry and a tractor collided at Thavuttupalayam on the Karur-Namakkal National Highway 7 near here on Tuesday evening. Sources said that a group of four staff members of a private bus company at Paramathy Velur in Namakkal district were returning home after duty when they stopped the tractor transporting blue metal from Chatram area in Karur district to Paramathy Velur. After the vehicle had passed just a hundred metres, the lorry from Karur to Namakkal rammed the trailer of the tractor, in the impact of which the four fell off their perch on the tractor. The wheels of the tractor ran over them killing two of them — S. Kumaravel (28) of Chinnapallipalayam, Kattuputhur, Tiruchi district, and Kilinathan (30) also of Kattuputhur — on the spot while their colleague Kamaraj (27) of Manappalli Agraharam near Mohanur in Namakkal district died on way to Velayuthampalayam hospital. The other victim M. Sakthivel (18) of Kaduvetti, who was severely injured in the accident, is being treated at a private hospital in Karur. Search on for drivers The Velayuthampalayam police registered a case and are on the lookout for the drivers of the lorry and the tractor. The bodies have been shifted to the Velayuthampalayam Government Hospital for post-mortem.
