Centre issues alert to Maoist violence-hit States

Vinay Kumar

NEW DELHI: The Centre has issued an alert to Maoist violence-affected States against possible attacks on railway networks in the wake of naxal cadres targeting a Rajdhani Express train in Gaya, by blasting the rail tracks.

The Home Ministry issued the alert on Tuesday to West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa and Chhattisgarh, apprehending attacks by Maoists on trains and railway infrastructure, as any sabotage on the network could result in large scale damage, official sources said.

The Ministry has also requested the Railway Ministry to deploy adequate manpower to provide security to rail operations and passengers and to take precautionary measures. “The States should utilise the services of Central paramilitary forces, the RPF, the Home Guards, civil defence and village defence committees in order to enhance and ensure the security of trains and other railway property,” the sources said.
