No other go:SSC students of Balasadhan, a home for orphans, forced to study in candle light due to interruption in power supply in Nalgonda on Wednesday.
NALGONDA: Technical snags in power transmission led to frequent interruptions in power supply in the town on Wednesday much to the inconvenience of the students preparing for the ongoing SSC examinations.
Notwithstanding the directions issued by the State government that there should be no power cuts between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. everyday during the SSC examinations, many parts of the town reeled under interruptions in power supply from 5.30 a.m. to 7.30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Some areas like Kathalguda experienced power cuts for several hours due to technical snags. The devotees also faced severe ordeal due to power breakdown on the occasion of Srirama Navami festival. The interruptions in power supply forced the SSC students mainly those residing in hostels study in candle light in the early morning.
“We had left with no other option but to use candles to prepare for Thursday's examination due to the two-hour power breakdown early morning,” deplored an inmate of Balasadhan, a home for the orphan girls, in the town. We cannot afford to waste precious time during the crucial SSC public examinations, she said.
Assistant Divisional Engineer (Operations), APCPDCL, Mohd Farhath Ali, said that a technical snag in transmission of power from VTPS generating plant led to break down in power supply for two hours in the town on Wednesday morning. The overhauling of 8 MVA power transformer resulted in interruption in power supply in some parts of the town later in the day. “We have restored the power supply by making alternative arrangements,” he said.
