MANGALORE: Electrical superintendent Chandrahas has been suspended from service for dereliction of duty. He was suspended on Monday, MCC Commissioner K.N. Vijayakumar told The Hindu here on Wednesday for allegedly failing to ensure that streetlights were switched off during the day in the corporation's limits. Mr. Vijayaprakash said that he had received several complaints that the streetlights remained on throughout the day in several places across the city. He had also noticed the same during his rounds, he said. He said that Mr. Chandrahas had been directed, in writing, to ensure that the lights were switched off early in the morning, but the direction had gone unheeded. When Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa visited the city during the weekend, he could not be contacted either on his cell phone or on his wire set, Mr. Vijayaprakash said.
