Man held for murder

VELLORE: Sixteen-year-old Diwakar alias Thomas, studying in Standard XI in the Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Tirupattur, was murdered allegedly by his father, Murugesan (42), a milk merchant, in his house in Samiyarvattam in Annandapatti village on Wednesday night.
According to police, Murugesan's wife, Gomathi (37), had left the house and was staying in her mother's house following estrangement with her husband.
Diwakar was staying with his father. Murugesan, who had plans of a second marriage, reportedly asked the written consent of Diwakar for the marriage. However, the youth refused. An irate Murugesan hacked Diwakar with a knife when he was sleeping, midnight on Wednesday night. Diwakar died on the spot. Murugesan was arrested by the Jolarpet police on Thursday.
