State will complete VIMS: Minister

HYDERABAD: The State Government has assured completion of the 450-bed Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) at Visakhapatnam at a cost of some Rs. 55 crores to provide services that are not available in the King George Hospital in the city.

Answering a question in the Assembly during Question Hour, Medical Education Minister P. Sudarshan Reddy said 4.19 lakh sq ft out of 4.50 lakh sq ft proposed as the plinth area of VIMS had already been completed. The hospital would provide specialities that were not available in KGH.

To a separate question, Forest Minister P. Ramachandra Reddy said the government was examining toxic chemicals that were dumped in industrial units in Gajularamaram forest.
