M. Bhaskaran, Director, Drugs Control: The complications from consuming fake drugs, or drugs that are past expiry date, cannot be predicted. It depends on the drug, the chemical components and the dosage that has been consumed.

The problem is that sometimes even expert Drug Inspectors are not able to immediately identify fakes that ride on the reputation of some brands. Only a chemical analysis can tell the truth.
