College told to pay costs of Rs.5000 to student
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has directed a college in Kancheepuram to pay costs of Rs.5,000 to a person who was forced to approach the court to get his original certificates back.
Allowing a writ petition, Justice N. Paul Vasanthakumar directed the college to give back the original certificates — SSLC and Higher Secondary mark sheets and semester one to four B.Tech (Information Technology) mark sheets — to the petitioner within a week. K. Suresh submitted that he joined first year B.Tech (IT) course in Arignar Anna Engineering (AAE) College at Pennalur in Sriperumbudur taluk in June 2004. After completing two years he realised that the infrastructure and amenities in the college were insufficient.
Those willing to shift, including the petitioner, were admitted to the third year at the Lord Venkateswara College of Engineering, Kancheepuram, through proceedings dated September 19, 2006. He successfully completed the course in April 2008.
However, the AAE College refused to return his certificates without assigning any reason.
