BANGALORE: The State unit of the Republican Party of India (A) has fielded eight candidates and supported two independents in the Bruhat Bangalore Mahangara Palike elections to be held on March 28. President of the State unit of the party M. Venkataswamy told presspersons here on Thursday that the party had fielded Narasingh Patel, T. L. Premkumar, K.P. Mani, and Satya. A. Prakash, C. Gopal, Sarala Revanna, and Lakshmikanth V.S. from the Chickpet, Rayapuram, Vannarpet, Kammanahalli, Siddapura, Dr. Rajkumar, Agrahara Dasarahalli and Kamakshipalya wards respectively. The party is supporting Surya Venkatesh and Narayana who are contesting from Nagarabhavi and Mathikere wards as independents. Stating that the Government's decision to ban cow slaughter would result in the increase of prices of meat and force farmers into hardship, Mr. Venkataswamy said that his party would stage a protest demonstration against the cow slaughter and the Samnaskruta Vishwavidyalaya Bills in front of Raj Bhavan on March 31.
