NEW DELHI: Four local football clubs will be on view as the Second Division I-League qualifying round commences at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Saturday. Seven clubs — Hindustan, New Delhi Heroes, Indian Nationals, Amity United, Simla Youngs, SESA Goa and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation — are taking part in the Group B matches. Besides the Delhi leg, the league matches will also be held at Bangalore and Agartala. The top two teams from each group will then meet in the final round along with Mohammedan Sporting and Vasco Club. Hindustan, the local champion, takes on SESA Goa in its opening match while ND Heroes will clash with Simla Youngs. Nigerian striker Musibau will lead the Hindustan charge even as the team depends on the strong defence of Pushendra Kundu, Jagbandhu Modi, Surjeet Singh and Anil Bora. Goalkeeper Vikrant Sharma was one of the key performers for Hindustan Club, which conceded only four goals in 13 matches this season. According to Hindustan Club official D.K. Bose, “We have done our best despite the fact that the club has not had any financial support from any quarter. The players have shown great commitment this year.” ND Heroes would look forward to the seniors, especially Rishi Kapoor, who has played for eminent clubs like Mohun Bagan and Salgaocar. Amjad Ali Khan, Bhuvan Chander Joshi, Jiten Rai and Baba Tunde will be worth watching too. — Special Correspondent
