Chowrasia, Kapur off to a poor start

Malaga (Spain): Shiv Kapur opened his Andalucia Open golf campaign with a one-over 71 to lie tied 70th, while compatriot S.S.P. Chowrasia looked in trouble after going four-over 74 in the ongoing European Tour tournament here.

Kapur sunk three birdies but could not help dropping four bogeys either — three of them came in his wobbly back nine — to see a sub-par card slip through his finger. Nothing went right for Chowrasia except the birdies on the 13th and 17th holes.

He dropped five shots over the last three holes of his front nine — including a triple-bogey on the par-four seventh — which pushed him down the leaderboard with no real chance of redemption.

Soren Kjeldsen of Denmark and Scotsman Paul Lawrie fired identical five-under 65 to share the opening round lead with a pack of seven close on their heel just one shot behind. — PTI
